Two CARING kids!

Every month, Somerset Academy chooses a student from each class to be nominated for Student of the Month.  This year, in order to allow more students the chance, they have chosen to honor two students each month.  For the Elementary age (school also includes Middle School) they have also been doing themes each month.  Or "life skills" that they ask the kids to work on.
April was "Caring". They talk to the kids about how to be caring and asked them to all be extra caring to one another.  For the Student of the Month Assemblies, they call just the parents of students being honored & let them know their child has been chosen.  The kids don't know who it is until their name is called.  (Although they often catch on if they see you in the assembly! ;)

So I got a call the 1st of this month that Noah was chosen.  I was excited & proud of him, but a little bummed.  Carlaya is like the IDEAL student, always listening & doing what she's told & always straight A's.  But she has not been student of the month in almost two years.  This is really hard for her.  Noah got student of the month TWICE last year by his Kindergarten teacher!  And then once from his Spanish teacher on the same month he got one of his in Kinder!!  TWO in one day- a school record.  That makes it even harder for Carlaya.  So you can imagine my disappointment when they say NOAH is student of the month.  :(  Poor Carlaya!!  I mention on the phone how funny but sad that Carlaya will be very jealous.  Then she says, Oh- Carlaya Christensen, she's on my list too!  She is also Student of the Month!   WHAT?!!  Proud mama!  Both kids?!  Awesome!

In the assemble I found out that they chose the students based on the "life skill" of CARING!  I think my kids are pretty caring, with all the extra siblings they've had come & go- they do emit quite caring attributes.  Glad their teachers each recognized this quality in them as well!

Good Job Kids!!
