I'm not one to make NEW or special resolutions. Each year is about the same, try to stay or lately...GET in shape! The same old religious goals (the basics) and so on.
BUT This year: Go back to School!
I wanted to attend cosmetology after H.S. but my family is a "college" family and my dad really tried to discourage me from being a beauty student. After all, "working at super cuts will never get you anywhere". I let my family persuade me not to go and I have regretted it ever since. Not only because I know many hair stylists that make GOOD money (also working full time which I wouldn't do with kids at home) but because there isn't anything else I have ever really been interested in.
My dad talked me into "college" and I began knocking out the generals and hated it. Although I did like the biology and similar classes. I thought about a nurse but horrible hours for a mom. I thought about teaching and even did my practicum. Turns out I really don't have ANY patients and couldn't stand make NO money and dealing with kids everyday. So well, I fiddle farted around and just kept working as a secretary and got married. Then 1 kid later I looked into cosmo again. Turns out, the price had gone up quite a bit and we didn't qualify for any grants & couldn't afford the loans. So I once again, let me dream go.
I've talked about cosmo or esthetics every since. But I never really did much about it. Until Monday. I thought, new year, new plans.....time to just do it! I inquired on a few beauty schools online and by that night they were calling. I've compared prices, programs, flexibility of night schedules, and distance to commute. Today I went to see the top 2 that fit my needs and I LOVED the 1st one. Euphoria is a great school with a great reputation. While I was there I was thinking it was the one. I loved everything. The price was lower than some but still we'd have to pay almost $6K out of pocket by the time school finished in 1 year. (then you still have to pay back the rest that was loaned.) Doable barely, but not ideal. Other down side: the school is the furthest from me; 35 miles ONE WAY. 70 miles a day, 4 days?!! (they are ALL in Henderson or East side) I still wanted to do it.
I go to the next school, G Beauty Institute. AWESOME! The price is over $5,000 less right now. (Jumping price in Feb and again in March.) So she told me if I am going to; go by February, or it will be much higher. (about the price of Euphoria) If I go in January, starting next Tues. the 10th, it will be the cheapest. So with Jonathan on board, he said GO NEXT WEEK. Saving us thousands. The down side, this school is a little closer but not a whole lot, and the schedule is not my fav. Euphoria is M-Th 5-10. G Beauty is T,W,TH 5:30-9:30 (giving me FHE night at home! and my Friday's with my man!) BUT this makes school 18 months instead of 12. UNLESS I add Saturdays....then its Sat 8-4 and only 12 months. We want to just get the school out of the way. SOOOOOOOO, I am now unavailable to travel anywhere for 1 whole year! Ugh! :(
I am super duper excited for school though. I can't wait!!
Oh and in case you don't know what esthetics is:
Basic skin care
Facials
Face & BODY waxing (yup even down there- that should be fun) LOL
Chemical Peels
Microdermabrasion
Microdermabrasion
Make up artistry ;)
eye last extensions, and so on. There are a few "machines" too we'll learn to use. I am just so excited to have all these fancy treatments done on me. If you know an Esthetician, you know how amazing their skin looks. I'll have before and after my school pics for sure! :)
Jobs from this field are in a salon or spa, waxing salons (which apparently are popping up all over Vegas) and also in doctors offices like dermatologist.
SO FUN!!! YEAH!! I can't wait for Tuesday!!

That's AWSOME!!! I wish I could get my schooling done in a year.
That's great. I'm glad you get to go. I loved hair school. And the nice thing about it is you will always use your profession even if you don't work outside the home. Good luck with school.
You can practice on me as long as it is NOT the waxing. lol. congrats, have fun.
