This is all about him.
In November 2009 he decided to take an EMT course in order to be eligible to get on with the City/County Fire Departments when they hired. He passed with flying colors and fell in love with the medical world. Unfortunately, EMT's make like $8 an hour. No can do. So he sat back and waiting for the hiring process with the Fire Department. Then he decided to take the Intermediate course, 1 step above EMT. (just below Paramedic) He loved that just as much and finished top of his class! City Fire is still not hiring but County Fire finally started their hiring process. He took the written test- passed, physical test-passed, even got through a grueling interview. They don't give you a pass/fail after the interview just a letter saying we'll inform you with dates of an upcoming academy and whether or not you're invited. Bummer! He waiting anxiously and finally got word from some buddies that County was calling guys to start the next step in the hiring process. 1 friend got the call, his call is YET to come. ;) Jonathan doesn't know if he'll even get in, but doesn't want his medical knowledge to go to waste. In April he applied at Medic West Ambulance company to work part time on the side. In was an intense, I think unnecessary, hiring process for such a low paying job. He had to take a whole week off regular work for orientation, take multiple training quizzes online and even work 7 shifts in one month for his internship! He had to take more work off just to get all 7 in one month! :( Even then, for your 1st six months you can only work special events like in clubs- waiting for some drunken loser to pass out, sporting events (which could be cool), concerts and the Electric Daisey Carnival Rave this weekend. He's excited to see some cool events and curious what kinds of things he'll get to treat besides heat exhaustion, over dose, and alcohol poisoning.
During his internship, Jonathan rode in AND got to drive an ambulance for 12 hours each shift. He came home every night with interesting stories about the day and those they transported. He's really good with IV's now and can get it the 1st time almost every time. ;) Black overweight women are the hardest to give an IV, next is old people because their skin is so thin it tears, black people of any age or body type are hard specially if their skin is really dark, you cannot see a vein, so he has to go by feel. He said its pretty tough. I never thought about not seeing the veins through dark skin. Interesting, huh?
Anyway, he loves it and is excited to work for real this weekend for the 1st time- not being overshadowed by a superior, just working with a co-worker. Friday night he's in a club at Cosmo. I'm not thrilled about that! :( Looking at 1/2 naked girls dance their life away drunk out of their mind, waiting for them to pass out. Saturday and Sunday he is working at the Electric Daisey Carnival (banned from L.A.) where they is TONS of illegal drugs and people doing them and drinking for 3 days straight. It is the mother of all Raves! It should be interesting to say the least. There is at least 1 death at each Electric Daisey Carnival location so far.
After I totalled Jonathan's jeep in March, much to his delight.......He was finally able to buy a new truck. He's wanted one since he sold his F150 in 2008. It wasn't paid for and just sat most days since he had a company vehicle, so we sold it. He was sad to see it go. This year Jonathan started working with another sprinkler company when his ran out of work, temporarily. He could no longer drive the company truck and was stuck in his jeep Cherokee everyday. Jonathan never liked it, I didn't either. It was a weird stock model (old company vehicle) and was just lame and uncomfortable. He was thrilled I totalled it and so was I. We made out like bandits from insurance and were able to pay cash for this! Yippee, says Jonathan. :)
(The other day it looked snazzy with our flag hanging in the bed perfectly, so I took a picture. If that GMC/flag combo doesn't say America, I don't know what does)He was just loving the new truck when the temporary company ran out of work too. So he went back to Desert Fire Protection. *His place of employment for 7 years now. (In the trade for 11)
Three short weeks later, Desert was getting slower and slower and just didn't have enough work for the few employees they had left. (They've gone from 400 fitters, to about 10 in the last 2 years) So old Jonny got the axe......... we've been expecting it for months so it wasn't a huge surprise but surreal.

That was on June 10th. At least it was the kids 1st week of summer break, so he kind of got to spend it with us. Jonathan is kind of a work horse and was spazzing out right away. LOL He hated not having something to do and "felt like a loser" for not working. ? I dunno why, when we know people who've been out of work for months, even a year or more.

Jonathan went to about every union sprinkler company in town to apply, whether they were hiring or not. None of them are, currently. But he's pounding down doors anyway. ;)
A friend of ours, John Tober (a member of our bishopric at church), owns a plumbing mechanical business (with the Bishop), Titan Plumbing. You may have seen the tag on the right side of my blog. John is a plumber and until recently that's what they company does. Jonathan had been helping him on occasion do some plumbing jobs on the side at Green Valley Ranch during the night. (pulling a double shift with his day job) They've enjoyed working together and John even mention that they had the licensed to do Fire Sprinklers too. Jonathan, still hoping for the Fire Department to call and still with Desert Fire, declined to explore that option at the time. Now that the Fire Department isn't' looking as promising to hire and he is no longer employed, he's ready to look into that option! :) Talking with John Tober and our Bishop, Ken Craig- two very awesome amazing guys....Jonathan is really excited about helping extend their business into Fire Protection. John would still handle the plumbing and Jonathan would handle the Fire Protection but both could help each other and bounce back and forth as needed. When bidding work, they can now bid for both which could be valuable to a project manager. They hope to get service contracts for both as well. It will take a bit to get things totally up and going, but it will be worth it and looks very promising. Bottom line- It's WORK!

He was going to work in in Fort Benning, Georgia for 6 weeks, leaving in 11 days. UGH! But with Titan Plumbing ready to start the Fire Sprinkler side, he's decided this morning not to go. Yipee!! That's too long to not see him- I would NEVER be an army wife.
