Making Progress

It amazes me that kids learn so quickly. Carlaya has always been a fast learner, but the things she has learned so far in Kindergarten REALLY AMAZE ME!

*Her hand writting has really improved. She knew how to spell her name before, but didn't write it very well. She NOW writes it very nicely and can spell CHRISTENSEN on her own and does it super cute!

*They just started learning sight words at school and I have been working with her at home because I am in charge of SIGHT WORD SOLIDERS (a program run by parents at the school) that will start next week. Out of the 1st 25 words, she knows 13 easily and can say a few more with little struggle. I hope to help her get them all down by the end of October. In Kindergarten they typically learn the 1st 100 sight words. More if they master them easily.

*Carlaya LOVES math and is so good at it. She reminds me of my baby brother Doug who was always a genius at math- even at 5 & 6! In a matter of minutes she can add up several math problems on one page- with no errors!! :) So proud of her for that- she DOES NOT get that from me!

*Even her coloring has improved and she brings home the nicest pictures for me! :)

My sweet little Allie is also doing well in school. While she doesn't share Carlaya's enthusiazium, she is improving with great strides.
On the 1st day of School she wrote "Alex" on her paper with pretty good writing. Apparently a previous foster mom or daycare had called her Alex and taught her to spell it. She doesn't like that name and prefers to be called Allie, but didn't know that she was writing Alex. LOL
It took almost a week to get her to remember how to spell ALLIE, because she had worked so hard to learn ALEX. She remembered that it was with 2 "ll's" but still spelled ALLEX. LOL

*NOW- she writes "Alexandra Grotts" or sometimes "Allie Grotts" on her paper and can do it very nicely (when she wants)

*She knows all of her colors and has learned which colors can be mixed to make more colors. She is very impressed with all of that..... She is also counting a lot and can get to 100 with ease.

*Sight words aren't her favorite, but she will at least try. We have a few down (6-8) and are slowly working on more. :)
