Labor Day

A Very Late, Labor Day Post:

Labor Day in Lincoln County is always a big to do! I have always loved Labor day and all the activities it has for kids. I grew up in Lincoln as MOST of you know. So for me, it is also a relaxing weekend at HOME.
Friday night we met my parents in Caliente, NV (15 min. from home) to have a dutch oven dinner with them, their 2 new exchange students (Florine from Holland & Julia from Brazil), my younger brother Clifford, and my sis Amber, Jonathan and their 3 kids. Jonathan recently graduated from College with a degree in Outdoors something or other...? And has been hoping for a job as a Park Ranger in NV or UT. He was hired in August to take over as head Ranger at Kershaw Ryan State Park in Caliente, NV. It is a really pretty little oasis in the desert. They have to/get to live right there in the park. It was getting dark when we finally arrived so we have no pictures of it.
Saturday and Sunday was spent just lounging at my moms and letting the kids run and play. My parents have the funnest little playhouse out back, a climbing playset, and upstairs inside, they have a kid sized door that leads to a Kids only playroom! The kids LOVE it there and Allie really had a fun time.
Saturday night is the light parade in Pioche, NV. It was really awesome as usual and afterwards the big street dance continues in the center of Main Street. We let the kids boogie down for a bit before the parade, they were quite hilarious dancing with cousins. Sunday is the big firework show also in Pioche. It was by far the best that not only I've seen in Lincoln County, but one of the best shows I've ever seen! You are sitting right under them and they were huge this year and so many of them. The show lasted almost 45 minutes! Allie's face told me that she might not have seen fireworks before! LOL She was in complete awe and just mezmorized!
Monday is the big Labor Day Parade, again in Pioche. We found a good spot sitting on a wall and luckily not many kids around. Here we are waiting for it to start.....

Best of Buds!

Looking anxiously for the first float to come!
Eva- a Chinese exchange student from last year came back to go to SUU and had to be in Lincoln for Labor Day. She hung with us, most the weekend.

Although competing with 3 exchange students, Carlaya, Allie & Noah actually had way more candy than they could handle. The surrounding adults caught candy and kept bringing it over to the kids. My purse was bulging with candy and was like 15 lbs!

After the parade there is always food and tons of fun at the park in Pioche. Here, they are waiting in line for the big blow-up slide. **Always a pose from Allie! ;)

Next, the girls rode this spinning ride. Noah was of course, too chicken!
Kids races were next and you get money before AND after the race. They had out quarters, nickels and dimes to all participants. There are NO losers!

They had the 5-6 year olds hold hands to make it more fair I guess..? The kids thought this was fun too!

Only Allie chose to participate in the "egg race". Keeping the egg on your spoon while going as fast as you can! Notice how hard she is concentrating! ;)
Getting ready to take a "train ride"! Uh...Hail Hilter? Not sure what pose this is from Allie.

This train is here every year. Such a cute fun homemade train. The kids could ride it over and over again.

On the way home from Pioche to Panaca, I decided to show the kids and Jonathan Miller's Point. AKA- make out point for all teenages! LOL It is a fun look out point just off of the state park Cathedral Gorge. We decided to hike down in just a bit, since we weren't in the right shoes for it and it was rather HOT!

I was in new shoes that were already hurting, so Jonathan and I suggested we turn back and the kids insisted on at least going to the bottom. So we watched from 1/2 way as they continued down alone. Such motivated little kids!
Can you see them?.....green (noah), pink (carlaya), blue (Allie)
It was a fun filled 4 day weekend and we all had a blast! Now, just counting the days till HALLOWEEN!! oh, it is MY time! love love LOVE IT!
