and my darling husband in the drivers seat...smiling from ear to ear!
Now, before you think I'm totally spoiled OR that my husband is crazy for picking out the car that I HAVE to drive.....let me enlighten you.
Last year after hitting a deer and totaling my Chevy Equinox, we needed a new car. Clearly. I was so not ready to get a van and neither was Jonathan. Besides we had only two kids and Jonathan wasn't ready to start fostering or adoption yet. It made sense to downsize and get something smaller and better on gas. Not to mention a totally rockin' car that is so slick and sexy I LOVE IT!
So with that we bought the Honda Accord, brand new off the lot with 7 miles on it. WE love it, we always will love it. It was the 2nd Accord I've owned and they are just the BEST car out there! I wish we could afford to keep it as a second car, but Jonathan's lovely 1995 Bronco stole that title!
We've only had 2 foster children come to stay with us but there are sure to more. And 3 carseats are just not working on the backseat. We really could use the room! So I've searched for the last 2-3 months now for a KILLER deal that would reel Jonathan into the minivan world. We both said, "WE are never driving or owning a VAN!" I then changed to say, Well I can only drive certain kinds of vans. (names I won't drive- not disclosed)
I've found some pretty good deals on Toyota Siennas & Honda Odesseys. But with each one my hopes would go up and he'd shoot them down. "we are NOT getting a van" "I don't want to drive a van and we don't need one- that Honda is brand new and 3 car seats fit- you'll have to make due!"
Well this weekend my luck changed! Thursday, before leaving town I happened across a Rockin' used Odessey online. It was in excellent shape and had LOW miles. It was a pretty good deal and I know my haggle husband could get it much lower. So I showed him and talked it up- talked it WAY UP! To my surprise he said he might stop by after work and check it out.
At my mom's, I showed my sisters and some of the family and keep just trying to think of the best possible "selling speech" I could give Jonathan. I was totally hoping he might be interested but knew my chances were LOW- very very LOW. To my surprise he did go by and he even talked numbers with the guy. But it wasn't the best deal he thought he could get. So he left. He said he might let them sweat it out for a few days, then go back and try to get them to go lower. I was bummed, but not surprised. I knew that van probably wouldn't be there in a few days either. The whole way driving home on Saturday afternoon, I was thinking really hard about how to change his mind. I knew that van might be sold that night or even Sunday. They had it online and on ebay motors. And they had it listed really low to lure in customers. If only I could get him to go back to the dealer that same night.
A few times I even called to talk "business" with him. But the dumb phone kept cutting out. I gave up and just quit thinking about it. I had a headache, I was tired AND I had 3 kids squooshed on the back seat! (brought home my 7 year old neice)
As I pulled up to the house in my lovely accord, I hit the garage door opener....... what the *$^%?!! I could see a Van in MY GARAGE! The van I wanted!! He was pretty proud of the deal he got (even snagged a big bow from them) and to my great surprise- he was even pleased with the Van. I just still can't believe he did it!
Thank you Honey, I love you so much!!

Woohoo, congrats on the new van :) Way to go Jonathan!
Welcome to the Van Club! I never thought I would be caught dead driving a minivan, but we bought the Toyota. With the seats folded away, it holds as much as my truck and can seat 7 comfortably. So, I set my pride aside.
Plus, I think the prophet said all Mormon families should drive a Suburban or a Minivan...
what a sweetie! i love it! can't wait to see ya this weekend!!!
That just couldn't happen in my family, we would totally buy things like that together but I think it is so cool that he surprised you! How awesome for you. I'm glad he likes it too.
That is sooo sweet! Such a cute suprise! As much as I would like to be jelous, I'm happy for you!
I have always been like your husband and said I'll never own a minivan, but IF I did, the Honda Odyssey would be the only way to go! I hear they are seriously awesome. Congrats!
Pimpin' new MAV!!! You didn't do anything to it up in the mountains did you? HAHA
