DAY 3 Oklahoma City Memorial

This is the memorial of the Oklahoma City Bombing. Parts of the original wall are still standing. This last pic you can see the effects of the explosion. When they tore down the rest of the building they carfully left the majority of the outerwall standing. THe memorial is set within those walls. And the marble slabs we walk on were salvaged from the original building as well. At each end of the reflection pool there is a large wall with an opening exactly lining up with the duplicate wall at the other end. (adjacent) Only difference is one wall has large numbers "9:01" and the other wall is "9:03" signifiying the innocence of Oklahoma City and 9:01 am on April 19th, 1995 and then the horror they faced, but also the courage of the city afterwards at 9:03 am. (the bombing happened at 9:02.) The empty chairs signify the 168 people who died that day. They even had smaller chairs for the 19 children who were killed. There was a chainlink fence (1st pic) out front covered in memories and tokens of love for those lost. Most of them had probably recently been placed since it was just the 12th reunion last month.
