Mya's parents rights are being terminated as we speak. We were originally told that they would start the termination of their rights (TPR) after 90 days of NO contact from parents. That date was January 8th, so a short while later the paperwork was submitted.
It has to go through the D.A.'s office which can take a while with a backlog of work. They then have to wait at least a month while trying to make contact with parents to make them aware. (Like posting legal listings and mailing certified letters to last known addresses.) After that we have to wait for it all to be signed off and then be in line (not literally) for a court hearing. The case worker told us that should happen by April. Which although seems lengthy, that is quick for foster care. I was thrilled- it's good enough for me!
A few days ago, she (case worker) emailed me to let me know she was going to the D.A.'s that day to sign off on the TPR! Wow, they must have jumped on it right away. So now our court hearing should be in March!! They are trying to schedule it now and will let me know when they have a date. At the hearing, the judge will grant TPR and it will be final. (if the parents don't' show up out of the blue- but they won't. I'm sure of it)
Next up, transferring our file to adoptions. I can't remember how long that whole process takes, but either way. By that point, she's practically ours. By this summer it should be official! (June or August..? LOL I don't know when, but soon!)
