Pioneer Day in Panaca, NV

We spent Pioneer Day in Panaca this year. My parents were actually even out of town, but it was my 10 year H.S. reunion that weekend as well so we had to go! They have dynamite wake you up at 6:00 am and it goes on & on!! UUUGH! Then a big town breakfast, followed by games & activities, then the Parade and big town BBQ. (my reunion was later than night)

My kids are really bad when it comes to kid races. #1 because they are a little shy, so they hate to be lined up with kids. #2 they are insecure and won't think they'll be very good. #3 when they do "loose" they burst into tears and throw fits!

Really quite embarrassing for Jonathan and I, so I don't know why we even bother anymore. I wish they liked it!! We did get them to each do a race or two- because you win $$ for even participating! Here's Carlaya "enjoying" the sack race! ;) (3rd from left)
Oh, now wasn't that fun! LOL
To our amazement, she actually wanted to go do the "bunny chase". They set a bunch of 5-6 year olds loose in a hail pile with 3 bunnies and chase them down for $$. Unfortunately after the 3-4 year olds, the bunnies were getting too hot & tired, so they choose pigs for Carlaya's age group instead! (they were saving them for 8+) I figured she'd NEVER do it, but she was even more excited. It was pretty fun to watch. And this time, she didn't cry until a minute AFTER it ended.
(in light purple there in the middle- just watching.....)

"There you go girl! Get that pig!" (almost got one, here)
2-3 kids grabbed this poor piggie, but Carlaya wasn't too shy to jump in and get her hands on his nasty little body either! (behind the girl in the pink)
All in all, despite the tears, they kids still had fun. They got TONS of candy at the parade and had lots of time to play with cousins. It was a nice quiet weekend in Panaca.
