Monday night I was getting ready to throw a last minute FHE together when Carlaya reminded me , "Mom, once you said that I could do the F.H.E. all by myself, can I do it tonight?" To my delight that sounded like a wonderful plan! Of course I had to help a little, but just let her know what she needed to do. 1. think of somethings she's learned at church that she could teach us 2. think of a church song to sing 3. arrange the tags on the FHE board to put each of us in charge of something
She told me she was going to tell us all about Joseph Smith, so I helped her find the best pics for it our of our church pic folder. We sat down and she asked Noah to say the opening prayer (he did a great job) Then she had us sing "I am a child of God". Next, I shared a scripture about Joseph Smith that fit into her lesson plan. While she gave her lesson, I held up the pictures.
(Her 5 year old lesson:)
Joseph Smith was just a boy and went into the forrest. (me: how old was he? Carlaya: he was 14) He didn't know what church was true and said a prayer about it. But lots of darkness came and it was scary. But the dark went away and it was really really bright. He looked up and saw Heavenly Father and Jesus. They told him there is no true church.
She kind of ended there, but Jonathan and I helped her finish telling the story by saying there wasn't a true church on the earth THEN, but that he helped restore the church. (she said she remembered that part too) Then we told her lots more about Joseph Smith. But I think she did an amazing job for a 5 year old!!
I must give major KUDOS to her two primary teachers who taught her this (in a way that she remembered it so well!) We are so proud of her and she is growing up so fast!!

That is so cute! I was just thinking last week that I need to start letting Bailey and Colby take their turns with the lesson--I probably should have started a long time ago!
