On Saturday, we decided to escape the heat and head to Mt. Charleston for a picnic! Jonathan got off work at 1pm so I had the picnic ready to go. It is so nice living practically at the base of Mt. Charleston, because it only take us like 20-30 minutes to get clear to the Lodge. We drove around for a bit trying to decide on a picnic table area or just a clearing under the trees. It was nice to drive with windows down! We finally just parked off the road on a paved pull-off and walked about 40 feet from the road. There was a perfect clearing under the trees right next to the dried up river bed. We threw down our blanket and pulled out all the goods. We had a super yummy, super healthy lunch! The kids loved it and actually ate a ton. It was so nice sitting in almost silence with only the sound of the breeze in the trees and the occasional bird. After eating we walked down the river bed a while and let the kids explore. They had fun, but lets just say Carlaya is 100% girl and didn't care for bugs flying around, rocks in her shoes, or any of the other 1,000 things that made her cry. We turned back and decided we'd better end the day before it got too ugly! :)
The weather was perfect and all in all, in was really relaxing! I think we'll do it again really soon!
And of course, Jonathan my 3rd child.....had to show us how he can run up a tree. What a wacko!! =)
